• His hair is naturally black, but he starting dyeing it brown Post-ARR / Heavensward. The trips to the First added faded blue highlights to his hair, which faded later on. During ENW, his hair temporarily became burgundy due to the travel to Elpis (Azem's natural hair color). I like to experiment different outcomes and relationships with my OCs, especially my main ones. Sæmar is no exception!In one outcome, Sæmar dates Estinien and does not manage to bring his Reaper Avatar back to their mortal form.In another outcome, Sæmar dates Davaa, as well as bringing Vitali back to their mortal form, and dating them as well in a poly relationship. In this union, a daughter is also born.Both of these outcomes are canon, but in different AUs.

OOC Trivia / Fun facts

• For certain characters, I try to mod as little as possible, so the reason Sæmar loses his tail during a battle with Zenos is solely due to this!• Arnis, created years before Sæmar, has the same eyepatch as him, which I only realized later on, and it bummed me out a bit at first, as I don't like repeating similar designs. Still, their eyes injuries are very different, so it made me ok with it!• I have a thing for snowy/ice aesthetic characters, I can't lie! My D&D character also comes from a snow mountain, and has ice powers from a white dragon. One of my novel's main characters is a Snow/Ice God. My second FFXIV OC, Dhektiqa, is designed after Snow Leopards. For Sæmar, he of course grew up in snowy mountains, as he is a Veena. His recent job change, Paladin, also has ice-looking spells!

Saemar had his own beliefs before navigating Eorzea. Hydaelyn was not known to him at all before that. When he first heard her voice alongside the meteor shower, he passed it off as recalling a nightmare of the previous night. Once he discovered his twin had the same experience, thus becoming known as an Echo bearer and Warrior of Light, he went into denial and kept his own Echo secret, until one day, out of fear for his life and his brother's, a burst of unknown energy saved them both from doom, revealing himself to the others.He was not made for battles. This was one of the biggest reasons he had fled home, feeling like a failed Viera due to thanatophobia disabling him and freezing him in battles.Hydaelyn had other plans; she would not see him fail. While she still had a good reach on him, she numbed his feelings step by step. At first, only his negative emotions from his phobia vanished, which felt amazing. Yet, as time went on, even the positive emotions became washed away, becoming completely numb.When her reach was snapped away by Midgarsommr, Saemar broke down, feeling all intense emotions for the first time in long time. He feared Hydaelyn, and this immense power she had over him. Fear transformed into hatred and distrust.As time went on, he pushed those thoughts away to focus on the events that needed him most, as despite the fact that he hated her "intervention", it still had worked to make him a great fighter.However, as he got to learn the truth of the sundering, the ancient times, Venat and Azem, it all suddenly clicked in place in his mind. Slowly, he understood something about his life: fate had showed him the way, no matter if he had liked it or not. This was all written long before he was born, and he could either accept it, or deny it. A sense of pride and love overcame him, and there, he became a believer of Fate.While "an evil for a good deed" wasn't fully excusable, he at least finally understood her reasoning for her actions of numbing him years ago.He remembers her now with respect and love.

Leif and Njáll were two men that defied the rule, sticking together for long periods of time, and only separating on occasions. Njáll was born with a unique physique, having multiple characteristics rather than one, yet partook into Male's duties, as it was what felt right to him.Together, they celebrated hunts and seasons with many nights of passion, finding the act too beautiful to be reserved solely for procreating. This went on for three years, until Njáll befell an unforeseen illness. Leif rummaged his notes on diseases and even visited nearby villages for their own opinion. Many theories arose, none sounding quite right. Not that it begged emergency, Njàll was fine most of the time, but unexpected bouts of aches were inexplicable.Until one day, another symptom arose, one unlike any other, and all became clear to them both at once: it wasn't an illness, not at all. In fact, it was a blessing: Njàll was pregnant. The thought sent a shiver through their spines, especially Njàll who had no idea he was capable of bearing any.During its remaining duration, neither of them were seen by anyone. It was like they had vanished, no one understanding why.Yet one day, a lone shadow arrived in a village... Upon bracing the fog and blizzard, they revealed themselves to be Njàll, carrying not one, but two newborns. With tears, he begged for any willing villager to raise the children he had birthed. That he knew the shame for disobeying the rules, but that the innocent children he carried should not suffer for his mistake.The village's disdain was palpable, and an awkward silence settled. Minutes passed, and Njàll would have lost hope if not for a quiet voice finally raising over the breeze. Víf, a woman who had been grieving her own child due to a hunting accident, slowly stepped forward, lending her arms a home for the twins. Birkir and Sæmar were attached to the hip growing up, something not surprising for being twins. However, due to Sæmar's intense fear of death, making him a pityful figther, he came to abandon him during a battle, leaving him for dead as he falsy believed he was. This strained their relationship greatly when, many years later, they reunited because of the Scions.Their relationship took years to mend, with a lot of efforts and ups and downs. And even if both were aware it would never be the same as before, the growth from each other's personal journeys, alongside their common journey as Warriors of Light, helped build a friendship and trust again. Nowadays, there is pride in each other's eyes for one another.

After meeting in Ishgard, there were endless curiosity on both ends. Davaa was instrumental in giving Sæmar confidence in his journey, thanks to his words of encouragement alongside his star and card reading. Davaa was no fighter, but her guidance was all he needed.Before the battle with Nidhogg, both realized their feelings towards each other. After the victory, they began a relationship with much awkwardness from Sæmar who did not know much about love.No matter what he went through, Davaa kept him strong.

When Sæmar was gravely wounded when fighting Zenos for the first time, he was devastated. He had done so much to become a fighter despite his thanatophobia, and just when he was reaching legendary skills, Zenos broke him, shutting him down violently.
Drusilla, a Lemures heard of the events, and sought Saemar out to teach him about the Reaper ways. Upon hearing what it entailed, Sæmar felt hopefull again. There was little time to think about the implications of seeking help from a voidsent, as Imperial threats needed him ready as fast as possible.At first, said voidsent was weak, but as the days passed and with a lot of aether passed onto it, it grew in strength.And soon, it would even begin to usher words. Just one or two at first, before it began making simple sentences. Sæmar was fascinated, yet a little wary as well. He was cautious. Still, this enhanced the bond between the two.But when Sæmar needed its help the most, at the frontline against the imperials as he faced "Zenos", the voidsent failed to answer his call, which would have cost him his life if Estinien hadn't swooped him away in time.This destroyed Sæmar.

Born outside of the mating season, and into the snowy woods, the twins Sæmar and Birkir★ were at risk of being rejected by Viera society. Their fathers, realizing their mistake, felt obligated to give them up to any villager kind enough to answer their plea, in hopes for them to receive a normal life.Vif★, a mourning mother, agreed to take the twins in as part of her healing journey.Their childhood was indeed typical despite. Vif★ protected their innocence, raising them as her own, loving them more as each day passed, and even taught them archery as they grew. In Sæmar's own words, life was magical.Until it wasn't.At seven, he was finally taught about death, drastically changing his behavior; he became scared, shy, retracting himself from people and the snowy forests. He cried to himself at night.One of those nights, a moth fluttered into his room, landing on his arm. The surprise snapped him out of his tears, where Sæmar immediately felt comfort in the small creature's beauty. Ever since that day, moths always found their way to him.Years passed, and Birkir★ found his call as a Warden. Sæmar followed his footsteps, desperate to not be separated from his twin despite his fear of death, freezing him in place in most hunts.As much as he wished for it, Sæmar couldn't progress, while Birkir★ became an excellent warden. And so, a rare exception was made due to his condition: he was allowed to roam the mountains with Birkir★, instead of remaining alone as he should have. Sæmar could hunt small preys, but mostly kept himself to crafting, cooking, and tending to the land, while Birkir★ did the rest. In truth, it worked wonderfully. Birkir★ didn't have to do any chores and thus could focus on his duties. This did not stop other Viera, young and older alike, for mocking Sæmar's inability to be a Warden. He was failure in their eyes, which wounded his heart every day, wishing he would have been different.One a peculiar quiet day, smoke arose above distant trees at the edge of Viera territory. Sæmar froze in place, fearing recent rumors to be true: Imperials had come to try and breach their mountains once again. All nearby Viera were called to group up and get ready for battle.

Sæmar could barely stand among the ranks. He wanted to flee, but his legs wouldn't allow him. And despite his fears, his heart longed to redeem himself and become recognized as a Viera.Battle did rage not long after, a day he would not forget until his last breath. Corpses cornered him, cries echoing through the valley in pain and rage......He had truly wanted to become a Warden, he repeated to himself as he vanished into the direction of a distant village, tears clouding his vision. He had just left his twin behind for the first time. He could barely breathe between his sobs, worsening at each insults thrown his way. A coward, failure, deserter... He could no longer deny the truth.Upon reaching the village, he warned them of the attack, and all capable women immediately geared up to help the Wardens, while some remained to keep the children. Sæmar retreated in a corner of an empty house, head buried into his wounded knees. He hysteria hadn't noticed how much scratches he had gathered from his reckless running among the fallen trees.After recovering for a few hours, Sæmar became numb. With an unexplained decision, he got up and leaving without a word, his steps retracing his previous tracks, back to the battlefield.When he arrived, there was nothing left for him to fight, nor to help. Ears low, he did what he could only do: tend to the land...and the people. Fighting the nausea and with automated moves, he dug and dug, creating resting holes for the deceased.
Another Viera, older, was in the process to heal another, close to Sæmar's site, and pondered.« What are you going to do, with the Imperials bodies? »Sæmar only peered at him with the corner of his eyes and simply replied, emotionless « I will bury them outside the mountain. »This was his resolution. As he clearly was no capable Viera, and as his twin probably laid lifeless somewhere, he was going to exile himself and never return.

▬ FUN FACT / TRIVIA- The First has sets of prefixes and suffixes for Drahn names. I picked "Niel" because it reminds me of the French word "Miel", which means "Honey". Something he really is the opposite of, yes :D- For Nielden's design, I aimed at a fragile, pale glass-vase look, due to his emotions ready to burst anytime.

▬ BACKSTORY SUMMARYNielden lived in the Crystarium after being rescued from a Sineaters attack on his village at a young age. He idolized the Crystal Exarch immediately, and the later took interest in him back, training him ever since, hopeful to train yet another savior for their world.That is, until "The Warriors of Darkness" came to do it in his place, the Crystal Exarch completely shifting his focus on them instead.Slowly, Nielden resented the Crystal Exarch, and a boiling hatred spread towards the WoDs.In truth, all the stress of his crumbling personal life in a dying world had gotten to him, creating a gravely misplaced hate towards the WoDs. Not only was his world doomed, but his love life was hanging by a thread, having verbal fights with his fiancé more and more.Unfortunately, Nielden didn't realize it soon enough. When Saemar was on his way to the tower to return to the Source, Nielden followed him, engaging him in a fight. Saemar did not fight back, but the surprise pushed them both into the portal.Nielden was present when Elidibus created the meteor shower. Nielden felt something in him change, and heard her voice...
